Horrible news: the composer Johan Johansson – the man behind the scores to Sicario and Arrival – has died at the age of just 48.

Some horrible news came in over the weekend, as it was announced that Oscar-nominated movie composer Johan Johansson has died, at the age of just 48. He leaves become some astounding work, that we hugely encourage you to seek out.

Johan Johansson broke through as a film composer (having recorded his own music for many years before) off the back of his score to Denis Villeneuve’s movie Prisoners, and the pair worked together subsequently on Sicario and Arrival. His acclaimed work also includes the music for The Theory Of Everything and mother!.

Johansson’s loss was confirmed by his management company on Saturday, who wrote that “It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of our dear friend Jóhann. We have lost one of the most talented and brilliant people who we had the privilege of knowing and working with. May his music continue to inspire us”.
