According to a new report, James Gunn was offered his pick of DC properties before choosing Suicide Squad…

James Gunn’s Superman? James Gunn’s Hawkman? Can you picture it? Mm, we can’t either, but a new report from THR reveals that the director could have chosen a different path at some point last year, before he settled on making The Suicide Squad his next project.

When Warner Bros. were ‘courting’ Gunn after he was fired from Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 at Disney, the studio apparently offered him his pick of DC properties to take a swing at, including Superman, however, after doing some research on the comics and taking a bit of a shine to Krypto the superdog, Gunn decided that the Man of Steel just wasn’t for him.

James Gunn was reportedly offered choice of DC properties

The former Disney golden boy, who started off at Troma before penning Scooby-Doo in 2002, is now handling writing and directing duties on The Suicide Squad, WB’s ‘relaunch’ of the villainous team-up scenario in which DC’s stable of criminals do odd jobs for the government in exchange for shroter jail sentences. It’s still unclear which characters Gunn intends to bring back or recast for the reboot-ish film, but we’re sure that all will be unveiled in good time. Rumours persist that we could be looking at a brand new gang when the movie finally emerges.

Which DC solo movie do you think could have worked with James Gunn’s writing style? Maybe Adam Strange, objectively the way more serious version of Star Lord?

More on The Suicide Squad as it arrives.
