Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book come out on top, while the Brits win big in the acting categories

Awards season is well and truly upon us with the first of the biggies, the Golden Globes, announced last night (or in the early hours of this morning if you live in the UK).

Voted for by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the Globes are often a good indicator of who and what will bag the big prizes come the Oscars in February (here are our Oscars predictions).

There were a few big surprises, with Bohemian Rhapsody taking the best film (drama) award and best actor (drama) for Rami Malek. And Peter Farrelly’s Green Book turned out to be the night’s biggest winner with three awards, including best film in the musical or comedy category. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse won the Globe for best animated film.

It was a great night for British acting talent, too, with Olivia Colman (The Favourite) and Christian Bale (Vice) taking home film acting awards. Meanwhile, Richard Madden and Ben Whishaw both won in the TV acting categories, for Bodyguard and A Very English Scandal respectively.
