London's calling for Peter Parker in this international Spidey sequel…

So, Spidey star Tom Holland has had a word with Sony and it’s good news: the studio has finally revealed our first official look at the much-anticipated sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home

Following on from 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming – the first solo outing for Holland’s friendly neighbourhood wallcrawler – Far From Home is also the 23rd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and counts as the first film of “Phase 4”, swinging into cinemas hot on the heels of April’s MCU-altering epic, Avengers: Endgame.

You can watch the trailer below…

So there you go – there’s no obvious answer as to whether it’s set before or after Infinity War/Endgame (a smart move in terms of keeping that two-parter’s cliffhanger intact for now).

Most importantly, though, the trailer gives us our first proper look at new baddies the Elementals and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio – the classic Spidey villain making his first big-screen appearance in this film in what looks like more of a heroic role (although we expect there’s some smoke and mirrors going on here).

It also shows the return of Samuel L Jackson as former SHIELD boss Nick Fury – last seen turning into dust at the end of Infinity War – who’s “hijacking” the gang’s summer vacation.

Directed by Homecoming helmer Jon Watts, Far From Home also sees the return of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones, Jacob Batalon as Ned and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

The film will be released in UK cinemas on 5 July 2019.
