Murphy is on board for the Matthau and Lemmon OAP comedy reboot

Eddie Murphy isn’t aging gracefully. The comic legend will team with director Tim Story on a new as-yet-untitled film inspired by the hit Walter Matthau-Jack Lemmon comedy, Grumpy Old Men, according to Variety.

Directed by Donald Petrie, Grumpy Old Men tells the story of two bickering old friends who have lived next to each other since they were kids. Their animosity grows after a female neighbor, played by Ann-Margret, moves across the street. It spawned the 1995 sequel, Grumpier Old Men, where Sophia Loren moves into the neighborhood.

Murphy has put his stamp on quite a few comedy classics already, including Dr. Doolittle and The Nutty Professor. He last starred in the 2012 comedy-drama A Thousand Words, and the drama Mr. Church, which came out in 2016. Murphy is currently shooting the Netflix biopic Dolemite Is My Name and has already lined up the Twins sequel, Triplets

Story is the first African American director make over $1 billion at the box office. He has directed eight films, seven of them debuted at number one in theaters: Ride Along 2, Think Like A Man Too, Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four and Barbershop. Story recently finished production on Samuel L. Jackson’s Shaft sequel.

There is no word yet on who will star opposite Murphy, although Jackson is reportedly the front-runner. Two hours of Murphy and Jackson arguing over a garden fence? Sold.
