With season 5 in the rearview, we’re now heading towards the sixth and final season of History’s Vikings. A brief teaser has been released ahead of the show’s return later this year.
Creator Michael Hirst says we’ll see a lot more of Ivar in season 6:
“There have been some comments that Ivar is a little two-dimensional and that he hasn’t got any secrets left, or that he’s not as interesting as Ragnar was. The fact is that we’re going to learn a lot more about Ivar in season 6,” Hirst assured Variety. “We’re going to see other aspects of his character and things we didn’t expect from him. I’m very pleased with the way his character deepens and changes.”
It looks like season 6 will at least mark a satisfactory end for the show, albeit a tear-jerking one. “If you have tears to weep be prepared to weep them as you watch season 6,” he warned, later adding “We’re on a world stage now with the Vikings, so everything is greater and more significant. And I swear to all the fans. It is a truly, deeply, emotional experience so I look forward to people watching it.”
As for that potential spin-off series? Hirst denies it is one, calling it a “continuation” – and the site prodded him a bit more about what that means, ultimately, for Vikings.
“Continuation means, that if we make it, it will be connected to my saga. It may not involve necessarily the same characters. I can’t go into more details than that, but for the fans of the show it will be a continued enjoyment of the Vikings experience.”
More as we have it.
Vikings season 6 air date
The sixth season of Vikings will arrive via Amazon Prime Video in the UK late in 2018. We’ll bring you an exact date when we have it.
Vikings season 6 renewal
History made a two-season renewal announcement in September 2017, ordering 20 new episodes of the series, the first season of which started airing late in 2018. Unfortunately, season 6 will be the last, but there’s already a spin-off series in development!
Star Katheryn Winnick also directed an episode in season 6. It’ll was the first time the actress had stepped behind the camera.
Vikings season 6 cast
It was announced last year that joining the cast in season 6 will be Russian superstar Danila Kozlovsky. The actor has starred in loads of movies over in Russia, but you may be more familiar with him from FPV action flick Hardcore Henry, or that Chanel ad with Keira Knightley…
Yes, that’s the one.
In Vikings, Kozlovsky will be playing a leading role as Oleg the Prophet, “a 10th century Varangian prince who ruled the Rus’ people”, according to Deadline.
Eric Johnson (Fifty Shades Darker, The Knick) is also aboard for season 6. Johnson will play Erik, “a formidable warrior who is an outlaw living on his wits and martial skills”, says Deadline.
