Thor: Ragnarok director Taiki Waititi's first film is heading to cinemas at last…

Taika Waititi’s highest profile movie release in October is the small matter of Thor: Ragnarok (and Hunt For The Wilderpeople was one of last year’s finest movies). However, his debut feature is finally making it to British cinemas for the first time too, with a digital download release lined up too.

The movie is Boy, and it’s heading into limited cinemas on October 13th, with the digital release following on October 27th. And from the official blurb, here’s what it’s all about…

Inspired by the Oscar nominated Two Cars, One Night, Boy is the hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age tale about heroes, magic and Michael Jackson. Set in 1984, on the rural East Coast of New Zealand, Boy is a dreamer who loves Michael Jackson.

Boy’s other hero, his father, Alamein, is the subject of Boy’s fantasies; he imagines him as a deep-sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality Alamein is an inept, wannabe gangster who has been in jail for robbery.

When Alamein returns home after seven years away, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for.

We’ve not caught this one ourselves yet. But count us gladly amongst those looking forward to it…
