The second of the two new films based on Stephen King's It will start filming next year.

The new film adaptation of Stephen King’s It, as you may already know, is being split into two films. The first is in the can, and set for release this September. Andres Muschietti has directed it, and he’s on board for the second film of the story too.

But when should we expect it? Glad you asked.

Muschietti has been chatting to Variety, and revealed that the plan is to get the next It movie moving properly next spring. “We’ll probably have a script for the second part in January” , he said.

“Ideally, we would start prep in March. Part one is only about the kids. Part two is about these characters 30 years later as adults, with flashbacks to 1989 when they were kids”.

If prep is kicking off in March, then a good guess would be for filming to start properly next May. That would suggest a release date in 2019.

It – the first part – arrives in cinemas in September.
