It sounds as though Fox's film side is up for sale…

A story pretty much came and went overnight, with the news that 21st Century Fox and The Walt Disney Company had been involved with some kind of merger talk, that would have seen Disney buying up Fox’s film operation. Inevitably, this brought significant fan interest, as it would have brought the likes of X-Men and Fantastic Four back under Marvel’s roof. Countering that, significant monopoly concerns were quickly raised.

And it all proved moot anyway. The Wall Street Journal has revealed that talks were indeed had between the two parties about a possible deal, but that things fell apart over movie, and deal points. It seems very unlikely that talks will now be resurrected.

It also seems as though Fox initiated the talks, and likely remains interested in getting rid of its film division. No formal comment has been made on this yet, though.

As we hear more, we’ll keep you posted…
