Stop giggling…

This year’s Halloween reboot proved that audiences still have an appetite for decent, serious attempts to resurrect classic horror franchises. In completely unrelated news, Leprechaun Returns has a new trailer.

Maybe one of the silliest chapters in horror history, the original Leprechaun (with Warwick Davis and a pre-Friends Jennifer Aniston) kick-started a long running series that ran to six official films and one (truly awful) reboot attempt.

Ever since 2014’s Leprechaun Origins angered fans by being so, so bad, the giggling Irish troll has gone quiet – until now.

To be fair, the new trailer looks a lot better than half the original sequels already – the sense of fun and weirdness is definitely there, and the retro creature makeup will bring back a lot of memories for anyone who spent too long in the horror section of a ’90s video rental store.

The new film dumps the Leprechaun down a well next a sorority house (which is in the middle of the desert because global warming). Linden Porco plays the gold-grabbing monster with Taylor Spreitler, Pepi Sonuga, and Sai Bennett starring alongside Ozzie Jones – the only actor returning from the original. Steven Kostanski (The Void) is directing from a script by Suzanne Keilly (Ash vs Evil Dead) for Syfy.

In case you’re wondering, Aniston isn’t in this one.

Leprechaun Returns hits VOD and digital on December 11, and will air on Syfy sometime next year.
