Denis Villeneuve is currently enjoying, we suspect, the early reactions to his new film, Blade Runner 2049. Whilst reviews are under embargo until early next week, early reactions aren’t, and jaws have been dropping from those who have been Tweeting about the film.
It’s the fifth film he’s made in four years, and he’s been talking in recent times about the need for a rest. That said, he’s reportedly on the top of the list for the next James Bond film, should he want that job. And now, he’s set to take on the long in gestation Cleopatra biopic for Sony.
This is a project that has previously interested Paul Greengrass, David Fincher and James Cameron, amongst others. The plan is to take the book Cleopatra: A Life by Stacey Schiff as the source.
And it looks like Villeneuve is interested. He’s now said to be in talks to take the project on, which is likely to have a knock-on for the 007 saga. It looks like Mr Bond may be needing another director…
As we hear more, we’ll let you know…
