A teenage live action Dora The Explorer is heading to the movies, with Michael Bay producing…

Sometimes, chums, the headlines write themselves. The popular Nickelodeon animated series Dora The Explorer is set to head to the movies, in a new live action venture. And it turns out it’s going to be overseen by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, as it’s going to fall under their Platinum Dunes banner.

It’s unclear yet who’s actually going to be directing the film, but what is known is that the movie is targeting a 2019 release date. Furthermore, the idea is not to focus on Dora as the seven-year old we see in the cartoons, but instead as a teenager, as she moves to the big city to live with her cousin, Diego.

Nicholas Stoller, whose writing has been partly behind The Muppets and Captain Underpants movies, is on screenplay duties for this one.

More on the Dora The Explorer film as we hear it. Bay is unlikely to direct the film himself, incidentally. Mind you, it’d be genuinely fascinating if he did…
