Melissa McCarthy headlines The Happytime Murders – a film that bills itself as 'No Sesame, All Street'…

We’ve been excitedly waiting for this one for some time, but finally, we’ve got our first glimpse at The Happytime Murders. This is the first theatrical movie from director Brian Henson since his pair of Muppet movies – The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island – and once again puppets are involved.

But not quite in the same way. This is a darker story, co-starring Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks. And it’s about a pair of mismatched detectives – one human, one puppet – who find themselves with a serial killer to catch.

The first trailer for the film, and a synopsis, has landed. Be warned, it’s a red band trailer, so no looking at this if you’re young and impressionable…

Here’s that synopsis…

Starring Melissa McCarthy, THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together to try and solve who is brutally murdering the former cast of ‘The Happytime Gang’, a beloved classic puppet show. Directed by Brian Henson (Muppet Treasure Island, Muppet Christmas Carol) and starring Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks.

The film is due in cinemas in the summer.
