Suranne Jones will play "Britain's first modern lesbian" in the new BBC drama…

Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones is set to star as “Britain’s first modern lesbian” Anne Lister in a brand new series heading to BBC One called Gentleman Jack, and we now have our first image from the show. That’s it, up there!

Sally Wainwright (Dead Clever, Unforgiven, Scott & Bailey) will be writing for her favourite actress once again here, and Jones will share the screen with Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders) who’ll be playing a wealthy heiress that Jones’ Lister decides to wed. It’s the 19th century landowner’s hope that this marriage will not only turn the tide on her family’s bad fortunes, but also finally bring some much-needed happiness into her life.

The eight-part series will also star Gemma Whelan (Game Of Thrones) as Lister’s sister Marian, and Timothy West (Last Tango In Halifax) as their dad Jeremy.

Filming is already underway in and around West Yorkshire, and we’ll bring you more on this one as we get it.
